Improvement works

From time to time, often at weekends or public holidays, Gatwick Express has to make alterations to train services, usually for planned Improvement works.

Industrial action announced affecting Southern and Gatwick Express from Thursday 29 June onwards

The ASLEF union have announced their train driver members working for Southern and Gatwick Express will be introducing an overtime ban. This will begin at 00:01 on Thursday 29 June and will continue until further notice. Thameslink services will be unaffected.

In addition to the above, the RMT union have announced a new 24 hour strike between 00:01 and 23:59 on Monday 10 July. Information on how this may affect your journey will be published here as soon as it becomes available.

Amended Gatwick Express service from Sunday 9 July until 02:30 on Monday 10 July

Engineering work is taking place between Selhurst and Purley, closing some lines.

From midnight on Sunday until 06:30, buses will replace Gatwick Express services.

From 06:30 until 10:00, a half hourly service will run.

From 10:00 until 21:00, a normal service will run.

From 21:00 until 02:30 on Monday, a half hourly service will run.

Amended Gatwick Express service on Sunday 16 July

Engineering work is taking place between Battersea Park and Streatham Common from 01:15 to 10:00. Work will also take place between Battersea Park and Selhurst from 21:45 until the end of service.

From 01:15 until 07:00, buses will replace Gatwick Express services between London Victoria and Gatwick Airport.

From 07:00 until 10:00, a half hourly service will run with trains leaving London Victoria on and at half past the hour. Trains will leave Gatwick Airport at 20 and 50 minutes past the hour.

Between 10:00 and 21:45, a normal service will run.

From 21:45 until the end of service, a half hourly service will run with trains leaving London Victoria on and at half past the hour. Trains will leave Gatwick Airport at 20 and 50 minutes past the hour.

Amended Gatwick Express service on Sunday 23 July

Network Rail are carrying out engineering work between Earlswood and Three Bridges, closing some lines.

Until approximately 06:00 a coach service will operate between London Victoria and Gatwick Airport.

Between 06:00 and 10:00 and from 21:00 until the end of service, a half hourly train service will operate.

Trains will operate at as follows:

On the hour and 30 minutes past the hour from London Victoria to Gatwick Airport.

20 and 50 minutes past the hour from Gatwick Airport to London Victoria.

Between 10:00 and 21:00 a normal Gatwick Express service will operate.

Engineering work is taking place between Balham and Selhurst from 01:20 until 10:00 and after 21:30 on Sunday, closing some lines.

From 01:15 until 07:00, buses will replace Gatwick Express services between London Victoria and Gatwick Airport.

From 07:00 until 10:00, a half hourly service will run with trains leaving London Victoria on and at half past the hour. Trains will leave Gatwick Airport at 20 and 50 minutes past the hour.

Between 10:00 and 21:45, a normal service will run.

From 21:45 until the end of service, a half hourly service will run with trains leaving London Victoria on and at half past the hour. Trains will leave Gatwick Airport at 20 and 50 minutes past the hour.

Amended service between Redhill and Gatwick Airport on Sunday 6 August

Engineering work is taking place at Redhill, closing one of the platforms.

Great Western services between Reading and Gatwick Airport will be retimed to run slightly later than usual between Redhill and Gatwick Airport.

It is not yet known if Gatwick Express, Southern or Thameslink services will be affected by this engineering work. Please check back nearer the time.

Amended Gatwick Express services until 10:00 Sunday 20 August

Until 07:00, Network Rail is carrying out engineering work between London Victoria and Clapham Junction closing all lines and between 07:00 and 10:00 only some lines are closed.

Until 07:00, Gatwick Express trains are replaced by buses throughout.

Between 07:00 and 10:00, trains will run half hourly between London Victoria and Gatwick Airport. After 10:00 a normal service will run.

Network Rail is carrying out engineering work between Purley and Salfords closing some lines.

Trains will operate at as follows:

  • On the hour and 30 minutes past the hour from London Victoria to Gatwick Airport.
  • 20 and 50 minutes past the hour from Gatwick Airport to London Victoria.
