From time to time, often at weekends or public holidays, Gatwick Express has to make alterations to train services, usually for planned Improvement works.

Disruption between Brighton and Haywards Heath

Trains between Brighton and Haywards Heath are now running normally following a fault with the signalling system at Burgess Hill.

Trains at Brighton are now able to run normally following a fault with the signalling system earlier today.

Disruption between Gatwick Airport and East Croydon expected until the end of the day

Lines have now reopened following a person having been hit by a train between Gatwick Airport and East Croydon earlier today.

Services between these stations may still be cancelled, delayed by up to 20 minutes or revised.

Disruption is expected to continue until the end of the day.

Customer Advice:
All lines between Gatwick and East Croydon are now open, however, due to the impact of this incident, services will remain heavily impacted, with cancellations, delays and alterations likely.

Your tickets will be accepted on the following alternative services:

  • Southern and Thameslink are accepting each others tickets on all reasonable routes
  • Metro Buses between Redhill, Gatwick, Three Bridges, Crawley, East Grinstead and Horsham
  • Southdown bus route 424 and 422 between Redhill and Crawley
  • London Buses route 405 between Redhill and East Croydon
  • London Underground on all reasonable routes
  • South Western Railway between London, Portsmouth and Southampton
  • Southeastern between London, Tonbridge, Hastings and Ashford International
  • Tramlink services between East Croydon and Mitcham Junction

A limited number of rail replacement buses are in operation at Three Bridges, Horsham, Gatwick Airport and Redhill. More buses are being sourced by our suppliers and we will update you as soon as we have any more details to provide.

How is this currently affecting the train service?
Services between Gatwick and East Croydon are currently running to a limited service.

Services will be disrupted whilst we work to recover services. Trains may divert and terminate early in order to place units and drivers at their required locatons. Cancellations and alterations are expected. Southern and Thameslink anticipate services will remain disrupted until around 2100 hours.

Can you tell me more about the incident?
We regret to inform you that a person has been hit by a train between Gatwick and East Croydon. The power to the lines in the area has been switched off to allow Network Rail response staff and the emergency services to attend to this tragic incident.

Disruption between Dartford and Woolwich Arsenal

Trains are now running normally between Dartford and Woolwich Arsenal.

Amended overnight service between Redhill and Gatwick Airport from 23:00 on Saturday 29 September

Engineering work is taking place between Redhill and Gatwick Airport overnight on Saturday, closing some lines.

From 23:00 on Saturday until 08:45 Sunday all Thameslink services running between East Redhill and Gatwick Airport will be subject to extended journey times and will not call at Earlswood or Salfords.

A rail replacement bus service will operate between Redhill and Gatwick Airport.

Amended Heathrow Express service on Sunday 2 December

Engineering work is taking place in the Heathrow area, closing some lines.

The first train to depart London Paddington will depart at 06:10 and every 15 minutes.

The first train to depart Heathrow Terminal 5 will leave at 06:18 and every 15 minutes.
