Improvement works

From time to time, often at weekends or public holidays, Gatwick Express has to make alterations to train services, usually for planned Improvement works.

Amended Gatwick Express services until 10:00 Sunday 20 August

Until 07:00, Network Rail is carrying out engineering work between London Victoria and Clapham Junction closing all lines and between 07:00 and 10:00 only some lines are closed.

Until 07:00, Gatwick Express trains are replaced by buses throughout.

Between 07:00 and 10:00, trains will run half hourly between London Victoria and Gatwick Airport. After 10:00 a normal service will run.

Amended Gatwick Express service on Sunday 27 August

Due to reduced platform availability at London Victoria, Gatwick Express will run to an amended timetable.

Trains will operate at as follows:

On the hour and 30 minutes past the hour from London Victoria to Gatwick Airport.

20 and 50 minutes past the hour from Gatwick Airport to London Victoria.

Amended Gatwick Express service on Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 September

Network Rail are carrying out engineering work between Purley and Earlswood, closing some lines.

On Saturday, a half hourly service will run between London Victoria and Brighton / Gatwick Airport. Trains will leave London Victoria on and at half past the hour. Trains will leave Brighton and 18 and 48 minutes past the hour.

Trains towards Brighton will leave Gatwick Airport at 2 and 32 minutes past the hour. Trains towards London will leave Gatwick Airport at 15 and 45 minutes past the hour.

On Sunday, a half hourly service will run between London Victoria and Gatwick Airport. Trains will leave London Victoria on the hour and 30 minutes past the hour. Trains will leave Gatwick Airport at 20 and 50 minutes past the hour.

Amended Gatwick Express service on Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 September

Network Rail is carrying out engineering work between Purley and Salfords closing some lines.

Trains will operate at as follows:

  • On the hour and 30 minutes past the hour from London Victoria to Gatwick Airport.
  • 20 and 50 minutes past the hour from Gatwick Airport to London Victoria.

Engineering work is taking place between Purley and Earlswood, closing some lines.

On Saturday, a half hourly Gatwick Express service will run between London Victoria and Brighton, leaving London Victoria on and at half past the hour (calling at Gatwick Airport at 32 and 2 minutes past the hour). Services will leave Brighton at 18 and 48 minutes past the hour (calling at Gatwick Airport at 45 and 15 minutes past the hour).

On Sunday, a half hourly service will run between London Victoria and Gatwick Airport, leaving London Victoria on and at half past the hour. Services will leave Brighton at 20 and 50 minutes past the hour.

Network Rail are carrying out engineering work between South Croydon and Purley, closing some lines.

Until approximately 06:30 a coach service will operate between London Victoria and Gatwick Airport.

After 06:30 until the end of service, a half hourly train service will operate.

Trains will operate at as follows:

On the hour and 30 minutes past the hour from London Victoria to Gatwick Airport.

20 and 50 minutes past the hour from Gatwick Airport to London Victoria.

No trains between London Bridge / New Cross Gate and Norwood Junction via Sydenham on Sunday 1 October

Network Rail are carrying out engineering work between New Cross Gate and Norwood Junction, closing some lines.

Thameslink - It is not yet known how Thameslink are affected by this engineering work.

London Overground - No service between New Cross Gate and West Croydon. Rail replacement buses will run as follows: (bus starts at London Bridge) - New Cross Gate - Brockley - Honor Oak Park - Forest Hill - Sydenham - Crystal Palace - Anerley (also for Penge West) - Norwood Junction - Selhurst - West Croydon. No service between Sydenham and Crystal Palace. Rail replacement buses will run as follows: New Cross Gate - Brockley - Honor Oak Park - Forest Hill - Sydenham - Crystal Palace.

Southern - Replacement buses will run between London Bridge and Crystal Palace / West Croydon via Sydenham.

Until 06:30 on Sunday, buses will replace trains between London Victoria and Gatwick Airport.

From 06:30 until the end of service, a half hourly service will run with trains leaving London Victoria on and at half past the hour. Trains will leave Gatwick Airport at 20 and 50 minutes past the hour.

On Sunday, due to a full closure of London Victoria, Gatwick Express services will not operate. Customers are advised to travel to London Bridge and use Southern services to Gatwick Airport.

Amended service between East Croydon and Gatwick Airport on Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 October

Engineering work is taking place between Purley and Earlswood, closing the line.

Thameslink services between London Bridge and Brighton will not run. Trains between Bedford and Brighton will call additionally at Balcombe. On Sunday, these services will also call additionally at Preston Park.

From the start of service until approximately 06:30, buses will replace Gatwick Express services between London Victoria and Gatwick Airport.

From approximately 06:30 until the end of service, a half hourly service will run. Trains will leave London Victoria on and at half past the hour. Trains will leave Gatwick Airport at 20 and 50 minutes past the hour.

No trains at Grantham all day on Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 November

Engineering work is taking place in the Grantham area, closing all lines through the station.

Trains will not call at Grantham.

East Midlands Trains services between Nottingham and Skegness will be diverted via an alternative route and call additionally at Bottesford as required. Buses will run between Grantham and Bottesford.

Trains between Liverpool Lime Street and Norwich will operate as two separate services. One between Liverpool Lime Street and Nottingham and one between Nottingham and Norwich. Trains between Nottingham and Norwich will be diverted via an alternative route, not calling at Grantham.

Trains between Nottingham and Grantham will be replaced by buses between Bottesford and Grantham.

Grand Central, Hull Trains and Virgin Trains East Coast will run an reduced service. Trains will be retimed and diverted via an alternative route, extending journey times by up to 70 minutes.

Some services from Edinburgh / Newcastle will be amended to terminate at York, Doncaster or Newark North Gate.

Buses will run between Newark North Gate and Peterborough, calling at Grantham.
